Complete Guide: Exporting Beatport Music
to Rekordbox 7 & CDJ-3000s
With the launch of Rekordbox 7 and the introduction of "Device Library Plus", many DJs have run into export freezes and unplayable tracks on club hardware. Here is how to keep your library fully compatible.
1. Rekordbox 7: Device Library vs. Device Library Plus
AlphaTheta introduced Device Library Plus in Rekordbox 7 to enable faster search indexing and dual-waveform previews on CDJ-3000 and OPUS-QUAD units. However, legacy players like the CDJ-2000NXS2, XDJ-1000MK2, and XDJ-700 can only read the original Device Library format.
The Golden Rule for Exporting:
In Rekordbox 7 Preferences → Device Library Plus, always enable "Export both Device Library and Device Library Plus". This ensures your USB works seamlessly whether you step up to a brand new CDJ-3000 booth or an older venue running CDJ-2000s.
2. Grid Alignment: Fixing "First Kick" Offsets
Sometimes when an MP3 is encoded with Variable Bitrate or non-aligned silence padding at the start, Rekordbox will place the 1.1 downbeat marker on the pre-transient silence rather than the actual punch of the kick drum.
Because Flowport downloads pristine 320kbps CBR files directly from original master encodes, track latency padding is zero. When Rekordbox analyzes the file:
- Downbeat falls on the exact peak of transient 1.1.
- Quantize hot cues trigger with sub-millisecond precision.
- Phase meter on CDJs stays centered without manual jogwheel nudges.
3. Setting Harmonic Key Display in Rekordbox
By default, Rekordbox may display traditional musical keys (such as "A♭m" or "C#"). To enable Camelot notation:
- Open Preferences (&cmd; / Ctrl + ,).
- Navigate to View → Key Display Format.
- Select Alphanumeric (Camelot notation).
